From the moment that Stars of the meeting Tony Atkin and Tom Woolley won heat one at a canter the result of this meeting was never in doubt. The visitors did briefly shine and by heat 8 the gap was down to 5 points but that was as close as they came.

For Atkin it was a case of rolling back the years as he reeled of 5 straight wins, not always from the front either but twice he came from third place in races to take the chequered flag. ‘It felt so good today I have a whole new appetite for the sport and after the year I have had with losing Dad I’m enjoying my speedway more than ever’ The oldest rider in British Speedway laughed off ideas of retirement ‘I’m going to buy a new bike in the winter and am committed to doing another two seasons – then I’ll hang up the Kevlars!’ he indicated he would like to return to Hi-Edge for the 2015 campaign.
Tom Woolley completed his best performance of the season with an appearance in Heat 15. In a season riddled with niggling injuries it was just reward for his endeavours. ‘It all came good today’ commented the popular Hitman who also claimed the Man of the match award from the sponsors.

There was some quality racing in this battle of the basement and for the Stags creditable performances from Ellis Perks, Danno Verge and Tom Bacon. It was an indication of how both teams have progressed that there were few falls and even fewer re-runs.

Guest of honour at the meeting was injured Club Skipper Liam Carr who travelled from his Berwick home to thank the fans and management for their support this season he indicated that his wait to return from injury might be a long one but he was not setting himself any goals. His presence was a bit lift for the team.

The Hitmen now have two meetings to complete their National League season at Scunthorpe next Sunday 12th and Saturday 25th against Devon in Plymouth.
