An uncharacteristic off-night for both Ryan Blacklock and Tony Atkin cost the visitors even the chance of a league point in this nail-biting City Gearboxes National League encounter in Hertfordshire.

Buxton already without the injured Adam Extance and giving a debut to scot Dale Lamb held the home side very close until late in the meeting. After 9 heats it was all square but a telling heat 12 where Ryan Blacklock had an engine problem when second gifting the only 5 1 of the meeting to Rye House ultimately decided the destination of the league points.

The meeting was a personal success for both Tom Woolley scoring 10 paid 11 and Liam Carr who stormed to two heat wins on his way to top scoring with 13 and claiming the number 1 race jacket in the August revised averages. Dale Lamb despite not scoring looked better with each ride and overall Buxton were genuinely unlucky to leave Hoddesdon with nothing to show for their efforts.

Hitmen Boss Jason Pipe reflected the team’s disappointment in his post-match comments, ‘I’m disappointed tonight we really should have taken something from the meeting. When are you going to see Tony have such a bad night as he had tonight he blew his best engine and struggled with his second bike that wasn’t set up and Ryan has been riding better than his 6 points from 5 rides that he scored this evening. I’ve been impressed with Dale Lamb who has never seen the track before. I’m confident he will do well around Hi-edge next week. My joint Men of the match have to be Liam Carr and Tom Woolley who looked very good out there.’

The Hitmen Now have to pick themselves up for the KOC quarter final with Kings Lynn Young Stars next Sunday at Hi-Edge and Pipe had some teasing news for Buxton Fans.

‘We have agreed a deal with a rider to come in to replace the injured Adam Extance and will announce the change in our Kings Lynn Preview next week.
