In the season already dogged by injury Buxton added to their current list in this bottom of the table clash with Rye House Raiders.

The match was over as a contest effectively after 6 heats when in a first bend tangle Hitmen skipper Ryan Blacklock suffered a suspected broken collarbone forcing him to withdraw from the meeting. His absence plus rider replacement and the lack of a named number 8 meant that the visitors reserves Shelby Rutherford and David Wallinger shared 14 rides between them. The pairing began well gaining a maximum 5-1 in heat 2 Wallinger taking the chequered flag after a third bend sweep around the outside but the workload took it’s toll as the match wore on.

In reality the Dalesmen had no answer to the home sides top 3 with ex-hitman Rob Branford and Ben Morley looking a class above neither being beaten by an opponent and only guest Tom Bacon lowering Luke Priest’s colours in heat 15.

Bacon top scored with 11 for the Hitmen but a season’s best paid 10 from Wallinger reflected the hard work he had to put in to the meeting.
Team manager Jason Pipe reported that Blacklock was not the only casualty of the evening for the visitors ‘ The injury-jinx continues aside from Ryan Blacklock’s injury, Ryan Burton has a lacerated buttock, David Wallinger is pretty shook-up after colliding with the airfence in a freak accident after his race had finished and Lee Dicken has a tyre burn on his thigh after laying the bike down to avoid Shelby in heat 13’

Pipe remained full of praise for his riders ‘Im proud of them this evening they have kept on going and done what was asked of them and we will re-group for Sunday against Kings Lynn. There will be changes as the new averages take effect and Shelby goes into the team proper. I will access the injury list and see who is available. Thanks also to Tom Bacon for his help this evening’
