RACE rusty Buxton put up a spirited display against Eastbourne at the Arlington Stadium on Saturday evening losing out 60-30 to the Eagles in the Travel Plus National League.

The Eagles who have had several meetings already this season and are dominant around their home circuit raced into a 40-14 lead after nine heats with only Ben Wilson and skipper Tom Woolley managing to split the home pairings.

The Hitmen didn’t role over though as they got used to the track and blew away the cobwebs to make the Eagles work much harder in the second half of the meeting as David Wallinger and Tom Woolley held Kelsey Dugard at bay for a drawn heat after Mark Baseby had taken the chequered flag in heat ten and Ben Wilson and Corban Pavitt doing the same in the following heat with Pavitt getting past Charlie Brooks to gain third place, Georgie Wood taking the victory.

Tom Brennan and Eagles reserve Jason Edwards were split by Woolley in heat twelve before the Hitmen gained their first and only heat win of the night and heat advantage as David Wallinger took the chequered flag ahead of Charlie Brooks with Lewis Whitmore taking third place for 4-2 for the Hitmen.

Eastbourne completed the evening with a 5-1 from Brennan and Wood over Wilson and Wallinger for a 5-1 advantage resulting in the Eagles taking the league points.

Team manager Joshua Moss commented I’m not to disheartened because there were some positives to take from the meeting tonight. Arlington is a difficult place to come at the best of times and more so when our riders have not had any track time due to the weather and we improved as the meeting went on and had we started the meeting from heat ten the match would have been closer. Corban Pavitt rode well and nearly getting around Jason Edwards in heat eight and then he passed Charlie Brooks in his next ride, Kieran Douglas improved as the meeting went on especially as like Corban he’d never been there and Connor Coles rode well despite falling twice with Ben Wilson being consistent and David Wallinger also getting a victory on the night also so I really think there are plenty of good things to come out of tonight and in my opinion the score does not really reflect the efforts of the whole team tonight and I feel there is plenty to come from this team.”
