BUXTON turn their attention to the National League KO Cup this weekend as they take on last seasons’ league champions Belle Vue Colts twice in the space of 72-hours starting with the first leg at the National Speedway Stadium on Friday night, 7.30pm.

The Hitmen will be looking to keep the score as close as is possible for the second leg at Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday afternoon but they will need to be at their very best around the fast Manchester venue. Team manager Joshua Moss commented “The lads have had more track time than the season opener at Eastbourne on Saturday and are all fired up and confident of getting a good result against the Colts to bring back to Hi-Edge on Sunday. We feel that we have been written off by almost everyone before even a wheel has turned, and we feel that we can cause a few major upsets and we hope to start on Friday. We will of course be giving Belle Vue our upmost respect after all they were not champions last season for nothing but this is a new season and we will be doing our very best.”

The Colts are led into action by late close season signing Tom Perry who skippered Birmingham to back to back titles a few seasons back and was left without a club after Cradley announced they would not be riding league racing this year. The Colts are missing Jack Smith who will be with his Championship side Sheffield so Ben Hopwood comes into the Colts side as a guest and the top two are well supported by two youngsters Kyle Bickley and Joe Lawlor who both qualified for the British U-21 Final on Wednesday night. Former Hitman Paul Bowen completes the top five for the Colts while at reserve the Manchester club have Kean Dicken and Ben Woodhull.

So far this season the Colts have one victory and one defeat as they beat Coventry 50-40 at the National Speedway Stadium but lost out to the Isle of Wight 48-42 at the Smallbrook Stadium.

The Hitmen name an unchanged side for the fixture which sees’ Buxton skipper Tom Woolley returning to his former club.
